Consultation & Preparation
Meeting with Dr. Sajan at Allure Esthetic is the first step to getting a breast augmentation. Dr. Sajan offers virtual consultations to make it easier for patients in Kennewick to seek care without making multiple drives to Seattle.
During the appointment, Dr. Sajan will ask about the patient’s goals and desired outcomes. He will also review their medical history and perform an exam of their anatomy. Based on these and other factors, Dr. Sajan will determine if the patient is a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery. If done virtually, patients will have the opportunity to size breast implants during their pre-operative appointment.
Preparing for breast augmentation surgery will involve time and care. Some tips and tasks patients may need to complete before their surgery include:
- Obtaining any required medical clearances (not required for all patients)
- Arrange a caregiver for the first 24 hours after surgery
- Book lodging, transportation, childcare, etc. if necessary
- Clean the house and go shopping before surgery
- Take time off work
- Fill/pick up prescriptions
- Shower the night before or morning of surgery
Surgery
The exact surgical technique will depend on the predetermined incision location and placement. Regardless of these factors, Dr. Sajan will make a small incision and make a pocket in front of or behind the muscle where the implant will sit. Then, Dr. Sajan will use a Keller funnel to ensure a sterile environment when placing the breast implant. This is called the “no-touch method.” It helps reduce the chances of complications.
Dr. Sajan will then adjust the breast implant within the pocket and ensure optimal and secure placement. After examining the results from different angles, Dr. Sajan will stitch the incisions.
Recovery
Breast augmentation patients are often surprised to experience a fairly easy recovery. However, as one of the most performed and oldest plastic surgeries, plastic surgeons limit trauma to the body which keeps pain to a minimum. Still, though, it is surgery and patients will need to use caution not to put stress on their incisions.
Side effects like swelling, bruising, chest tightness, nipple numbness or hypersensitivity, and redness are expected and normal. Visible side effects should subside in roughly two weeks. Though, residual swelling may last several weeks. Results are considered final between nine months and one year after surgery.
