FUE, or “follicular unit extraction” is a breakthrough in hair restoration technology. At Allure Esthetic Plastic Surgery, we offer this innovative procedure for both men and women, performed with the Neograft system. For a minimally-invasive hair restoration treatment, Neograft delivers outstanding results to patients with thinning or balding areas – an appropriate treatment for both men and women.

What is FUE?

Your natural hair grows in clusters of several hairs in a group. These small clusters are called follicular units. These clusters can now be extracted one by one, transplanted into the thinning or balding areas of the scalp immediately after extraction with the Neograft automated system. One of the most significant advantages of this type of hair transplant technology is that it leaves no linear scar.

FUE vs. Traditional Hair Transplant Procedures

In the past, hair transplants were performed by taking a strip of the scalp from the back of the head where the follicles are healthy and strong. Once removed, the hair follicles are then carefully removed from the strip and implanted into the thinning area. This procedure, while effective, leaves the patient with a linear scar that must be hidden by existing hair. This procedure requires a longer recovery time, involves stitches or staples in the scalp, and makes it impossible to wear your hair very short on the sides and back. Many patients are now turning to hair restoration with the FUE technology for a more natural look, shorter recovery time, and the ability to wear a short hairstyle with no concern about a visible linear scar.

FUE Hair Restoration Before & After

FUE and Neograft Hair Restoration in Seattle

The Neograft system is an incredible breakthrough in FUE transplant technology. The system functions by automatically extracting targeted hair follicles very gently. Neograft has become the gold standard for FUE hair restoration. This process is highly accurate and far faster than former FUE procedures, capable of extracting and implanting about 2,000 hair follicles in just one appointment.

Fuller Hair Without Invasive Surgery: FUE

Hair loss is one of the most distressing aspects of aging. A once full, thick head of hair will slowly begin to thin, the hairline recedes, and the remaining hairs become finer. This can leave you looking far older than you are, as well as less vital and attractive, with a big impact on your self-confidence. Restoring thicker, healthy, natural hair can be achieved with the FUE procedure performed with the Neograft system

Your hair will grow about one inch in length within a couple of months. Each hair is seated in a natural follicle. The hair growth cycle is about two to six years, after which it is shed, and a new hair begins to grow. The hair follicles on the hairline and top of the scalp are sensitive to a hormone (DHT, or dihydrotestosterone), and the follicle naturally becomes smaller, eventually stopping producing hair strands at all. Balding and thinning comes about through this process – which can begin very early in life, or later, depending upon the genetics of the individual.

Male Pattern Baldness

Male pattern baldness is very common, and starts with the hairs themselves becoming thinner, shorter and finer (called “vellus hair”). Eventually, those follicles simply stop producing any hair. These phases of hair growth and loss are termed:

  • Anagen (active growth): In this phase, health hair is growing at about half an inch every month, reaching a full length of about 18 to 30 inches (if left to grow). Your genetic makeup impacts the length of time of this phase, which can range from 3 to 7 years.
  • Catagen (active loss): This phase lasts about 10 days, and is the transitional period between hair growth and hair loss.
  • Telogen (resting): During the follicle resting phase, the hair strand is released and falls out. The follicle is resting, and inactive for about three months, after which it once again produces hair strands.

In male pattern baldness, starting any time after puberty, the hair follicle, in a specific pattern, will eventually stop producing hair strands. It moves through each growth phase, producing finer, thinner hairs, and then stopping hair growth completely, leaving the scalp visible with sparse, fine hair, or leaving the scalp with completely bald areas.

Women with Hair Loss

Women commonly suffer some degree of hair loss – but in some cases, it can be extreme. In fact, about 40 percent of the individuals living with an unpleasant degree of hair loss are women, and Dr. Sajan of Allure Esthetic Plastic Surgery in Seattle is here to help. It is normal to lose about 50 – 100 hairs per day. It is very distressing to see many, many lost hairs in the shower drain every day, or on your pillow when you awaken, and watch a thick, healthy head of hair thinning. The FUE system can help you restore healthy hair follicles to the affected area of the scalp.
