We bill most major insurances!

At Allure Esthetic, we are aware of the barriers that exist for many transgender individuals seeking insurance coverage for medical care related to their transitions. As advocates for the transgender community, we do everything in our power to minimize these obstacles and help our patients navigate what can be a very complex and challenging healthcare system.

We look forward to partnering with you and providing you the care you deserve in a compassionate, stress-free environment. Find out how to apply for transgender health care coverage to minimize your personal financial responsibility.

How to Apply for Insurance for Top Surgery Procedures

If you don't already have health insurance or you're looking to switch to a transgender-friendly plan, the Health Insurance Marketplace is an ideal place to start. This online hub provides in-depth insurance plan information for a wide range of available options, plus enrollment services online or over the phone to make applying easy.

Applying for Marketplace Insurance

If you choose to apply for Marketplace coverage, fill out your form with the following information:

  • Use your full name as it is currently listed on your Social Security card, even if it is not your preferred name. If the name you give doesn’t match the one that the Social Security Administration (SSA) has on file, the inconsistency could trigger a review process that will prolong the application and approval timeline
  • Select the sex that appears on most of your other legal documents, including your driver's license, Social Security card, and birth certificate. Some state Medicaid agencies may try to verify your sex against available records, so it's important to match your existing information until your transition is official

You can update the information to your coverage plan, including your name and sex, after your transition is complete.

Be Aware of Insurance Plans with Transgender Exclusions

It's crucial to completely read the terms of coverage provided in an insurance plan before you enroll to find any hidden transgender exclusions. Otherwise, certain health care services – including insurance coverage for aesthetic surgical procedures – may not be covered.Look out for terms like:

  • Services related to sex change
  • Sex reassignment surgery
  • Gender change
  • Transsexualism
  • Transition-related care
  • Gender identity disorder
  • Gender identity dysphoria

Furthermore, check for language like, "All procedures related to being transgender are not covered." If you run into a plan that you believe excludes transgender procedures, contact the plan directly to get more information on which services may be provided. If you’re still uncertain about what a plan may or may not cover, we have an appointed full-time transgender insurance coordinator to assist you in finding the coverage that is best for you.
